Summer 2005 Ramblings

Ninety Six battlefield, Greenwood County, SC

This little town near the Congaree River and US Route 601 in Calhoun Cou

The second battle to take place here was a failed effort by American forces to beseige and eject the British regulars and Tory loyalists following costly defeats at Cowpens and Kings Mountain.  While saved by the arrival of British reinforcements, the decision to evacuate before a rematch could take place resulted in the swift loss of the Upstate to the patriots, and sudden shifting of the war effort into the formerly-secured British-held Lowcountry.
